When I’m speaking I feel as though I’m doing what God created me to do. To borrow from Eric Liddell of Chariots of Fire, I feel His pleasure. It’s an honor to be able to communicate with others about what God has done for me and can do for them, too.
I have both an MA and a BA in English, with a minor in speech. I’m a graduate of the CLASSeminar (Christian Leaders and Speakers Services) as well as Upper CLASS, an advanced training course. I have spoken in various settings, including a ladies’ retreat, mother/daughter luncheon, men’s prayer breakfast, Community Bible Study (CBS) group, a board luncheon, writing workshops, and more.
Speaking topics include:
“Beauty from Ashes”
Little girls dream of fairytale romances, storybook weddings and “Happily Ever After.” I was no different, but in the blink of an eye, my life was reduced to a pile of Cinderella ashes. I share my testimony of how God brought me through that devastating time and how, along the way, He made beauty come from ashes.
“Beauty and the Beholder”
Beauty is all around us—in creation, in the arts, the written word, and more—but often we are so busy that we miss it or take it for granted. Beauty is one way God reaches out to us. We have only to open our minds and hearts to see Him in it. With scripture and examples, I talk about where to find beauty and how to incorporate it into our lives—all with the idea of using it to bring us closer to God.
“Dreaming a New Dream”
Life rarely turns out the way we would like. Most of us have suffered a significant loss in our lifetimes, and with that comes the death of a dream—the dream of what our lives will be. With God’s help, we dream a new dream. Using scripture and examples from my own life and the lives of others, I discuss grieving our losses, letting God comfort us, and looking to Him for a new dream.
“The Sense of Worship”
“Taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8). In this verse, the psalmist paints a vivid picture of our relationship with God using the sense of taste. God gave us our senses so that we might experience Him in different ways. I talk about the gift of our senses and give examples of how to worship God with them to deepen and enrich our relationship with Him.
“NoteWorthy”
Today, when we have email, instant messaging, and more, why would we take time to write a real note to someone? Because in just few minutes, we can lift someone’s spirit—and our own—by sending a few words of encouragement. I will explain how easy it is to do and give lots of ideas on how to get started.
